Welcome to the Gothic London of the 1800s.These saucy tales quicken the pulse, thrill the mind, and excite parts of the body that other, lesser books fail to reach. Short stories featured in this sweet confection of blood, sex, and Gothic melodrama include "Holmes of the Baskervilles", "Miss Katie Bell - Victorian Vampire", "Joan Dark Is Lost", and "The Vampire Alice Through the Looking Glass".Here, vampires walk the streets and your favorite characters from Victorian literature are twisted until they snap. 1. After igniting the writing process with the heavy duty soul-rock of ‘Bold’, ‘As You Were’ was recorded in two locations. Greg Kurstin performed all of the instruments on the four songs that he produced (‘Wall Of Glass’, ‘Paper Crown’, ‘Come Back To Me’ and the psychedelic whoosh of ‘It Doesn’t Have To Be That Way’), while Dan Grech-Marguerat produced the remainder of the album at Snap! Studios in London. The result is exactly what you would have hoped a Liam Gallagher solo album would sound like: the passion for the classic 60s/70s influence that he’s always had has been updated for the here and now. “I didn’t want to be reinventing anything or going off on a space jazz odyssey,” says Liam. “It’s the Lennon ‘Cold Turkey’ vibe, The Stones, the classics. But done my way, now.” One of the most striking aspects of ‘As You Were’ is that all the songs have a purpose. There’s no flab, nothing to cut. They all feel directed at something or someone, setting the record straight or getting his side of the story over, be that the swinging, Bo Diddley-like ‘Greedy Soul’, which incinerates someone who’s the “ungrateful dead” or the mega-ballad ‘For What It’s Worth’ which Liam wrote with Simon Aldred of Cherry Ghost and serves up the album’s biggest chorus. The album’s cover features an iconic new portrait of Liam which was taken by the influential photographer, fashion designer and creative director Hedi Slimane. Track Listing: 1. Wall of Glass 2. Bold 3. Greedy Soul [Explicit] 4. Paper Crown 5. For What It's Worth 6. When I'm in Need 7. You Better Run 8. I Get By 9. Chinatown 10. Come Back to Me 11. Universal Gleam 12. I've All I Need
When local musical prodigy, Gilbert Swann, is selected to play the violoncello with the visiting London orchestra during the musical festival in the five towns, his mother is convinced that he will be the cornerstone of the entire event. When local dignitary Mrs. Clayton-Vernon invites Gilbert to dinner before the concert with her cousin, the famous conductor from London, she sees this as recognition of his musical genius. A sudden cold snap on the day, however, makes Mrs. Swann fearful that Gilbert's hands will get cold on the journey from Mrs. Clayton-Vernon's house to the concert. She resolves to deploy a remedy from her childhood, and sets off to Mrs. Clayton-Vernon's mansion with two steaming hot baked potatoes hidden in her muff, for Gilbert to warm his hands upon before the concert. It does not occur to Mrs. Swann initially that smuggling hot potatoes into Mrs. Clayton-Vernon's grand house may be considered a social faux-pas. Her efforts to conceal the potatoes and hand them over discretely to her son are deliciously farcical...and the adventure turns out rather differently than intended. 1. Language: English. A summer best seller from the immensely popular Lindsey Kelk Being arrested in your own bedroom is never a good start to the day. Tess Brookes really needs to sort out her back-stabbing flatmate - and her life. Should she gamble all on the new photography job she's landed, or snap up the offer from long-time crush and best friend Charlie to start up on their own - in more ways than one? There's just one small thing she hasn't mentioned. Or rather, one tall thing. He's handsome, infuriating and called Nick.… For the first time, Tess has to choose between the life she always dreamed of and a future she never imagined possible. From London to Milan, with high fashion and low behaviour thrown in, she's going to have to make up her mind what a girl really wants. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Penelope Rawlins. 1215 A.D.: The reign of King John means dark days for all of England. Not one man, woman, or child lived without fear. Magnifying this fear is the man they call The Lord of the Shadows - a terrifying figure who sits at the right hand of the King, manipulating the royal moves like a puppet master. The Lord of the Shadows has been known to tear men apart with his bare hands and can, with a snap of his fingers, alter the future of anyone he chooses. The nobility is terrified of him, and for good reason. That is - the nobility that know of his existence. Lady Sheridan St. James has been drawn into the political arena by her father; having no sons, he bequeaths his power and knowledge to his eldest daughter, a stunningly beautiful and bright creature. Upon his death, Sheridan finds herself at the head of the mighty House of St. James, a major leader in the rebellion against the crown. During her first visit to London, she becomes acquainted with a massive knight who has, in kindness, saved her sister's life. She has no idea Sir Sean de Lara is the man known as The Lord of the Shadows, but even when she is told of his horrible deeds, she still cannot not believe it. Sheridan and Sean draw close despite the influence of the horrendous affairs of state sweeping London. All she knows is that he is handsome and kind. Although Sean is well aware of the lady's status, it makes no difference that she is, in perception, his enemy. To Sean, Sheridan is quickly becoming his reason for living. But out of necessity, his responsibilities to the King become stronger than his love for Sheridan and he is forced to perform his duties or risk death to them both. Still, Sean swears to her that his days as the Shadow Lord are numbered, even as rival factions cruelly separated them. It soon becomes a test of Sean and Sheridan's love to find each other again in a world which is determined to keep them apart. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Brad Wills. Zoe Hunter thought all the questions surrounding her ex's mysterious past had been answered. She couldn't have been more wrong. Free-spirited Zoe lives an unconventional life. She tried the nine-to-five office routine, but it was like the death of a thousand cuts-paper cuts. She couldn't take it, and vowed to make a living outside of a cubicle. Now she's a "Jill of all trades," taking on freelance copy-editing, property management, and even dog walking gigs. Sure, it's a little insecure, but Zoe isn't exactly what you'd call cautious. Normally she loves surprises and the unknown, except when it comes in the form of a mysterious package, visits from the FBI, and thugs showing up on her jogging route. Zoe isn't sure who she's more afraid of, the FBI or the thugs, so she makes a snap decision and skips town to follow the clues in the package. The trail takes her to London, where she suspects she'll find her ex, Jack. The authorities think he's dead, but Zoe doesn't agree. Can she find her elusive ex? And what about her new tenet with the shy smile and sexy stubble? Why does he keep popping up in her life? Zoe will have to use her rather eccentric skillset to answer those questions, all the while dodging someone who wants to make this trip abroad her last.
